Camlon's Tragedy | Nanai

The Beginning

  • The game begins with a dragon image. There's music playing in the background and someone seems to be telling you to wake up. Still not awake, you can see flames in the distance, burning bright. Eventually, you come to and find yourself in a bed- within a house that's... burning!!! What are you waiting for?! Get out of there!!! However, if you're the calm type, check the drawer to the right of the bed you are in to find a V. Ptn (Raises Vigor +1)!! That should come in handy. Anyway, follow the old woman where she goes. Eventually, you'll be stuck behind the flames!! Not to worry, however, the old woman knows some magic, and is able to distinguish the flames in front of you. She babbles on about how her magic used to be strong, but is no longer. After she is done, follow her down the stairs where everything will be silent. You can talk to the people in the room if you wish, but the main people that you have to speak to is the girl near the exit, where she will be standing to your left. After she moves, talk to the girl in the middle of the group, by the exit, and you'll hear about a girl named Sara. After that, a boy will walk in along with Sara. A conversation between the people take place, discussing the history of the Dark Dragons- the ones who attacked your town- and the other dragon families. You learn that you are part of the Light Dragon Clan, and have been targeted by the Dark Dragons- under the rule of Zog- to be the first clan eliminated from the face of the world!! It seems the Light Dragon Clan had this 'Dragon Power' that Zog feared, but they seem to no longer possess it. No matter, the people of your clan are determined to fight, so it's time to fight! Sara then stops you. She talks about her concern for everyone's safety, and decides to turn everyone into stone. Darn! Don't you wish you could help Sara out?! She leaves with a last word to Ryu (the main character's initial name) and heads out the door. Sara is then captured and sent to Jade, the commander. They decide to eliminate her, but are stopped with a quick spell cast by Sara. All of the soldiers, except Jade, flee. Sara attempts to defeat Jade, but realizes she is out of his league. Afterwards, a short history dialogue is brought to you which informs you about the seven goddess keys and this goddess named 'Tyr'. Whatever it is, sounds like trouble, doesn't it?

    The Beginning of Anew

In the morning, you find yourself unpetrified. The people are still willing to fight against Zog, but they all run away when the old woman jumps and rocks the house they are in. The lady mumbles about how the legend of the 'hero' is all false, but Ryu is determined to save Sara, for she is after all, his sister. The Chief doesn't bother trying to stop Ryu, and wishes him luck. A chest appears behind the old woman. Open it to discover 300 GP (useful for shopping for ITEMS). When you exit the house, you'll find the fire has stopped, and ruins remain. If you look southwest from the Elder's House (the house you exited from), you'll see a small little shrine-like house with a dragon emblem on it. If you take a visit inside, and talk to the statue in the middle of the water, you will find that you can save your progress. When given the opportunity, ALWAYS save your game. Now after you have saved (if you haven't, shame on you!!!), go to the northwest of the Elder's house to find a Weapon and Item shop.

  • Dragon Shrine
  • The Item and Weapon shop holdings are listed to the side. I suggest buying AT LEAST three Herbs and two Antdts (cures poison). They will be useful if you are in dire need of recovery and an Inn isn't in sight. The things that are below 299 GP in the weapon shop are equipment which are weaker than what you have on. You are either brave or very dumb to go off spending all 300 GP for an ArmPad. It isn't necessarily required to defeat the enemies you will meet on the overworld map, for the enemies aren't that strong. Once you have made your preparations, exit the town from either the south side or west side, whichever is comfortable for you.

    Overworld Map

Ah, finally you get to see the world map! How do you feel? Excited, happy, gloomy, sad, or do you just plain don't care? Experiment- you can move in all directions, HUNT IF you see an animal AND IF you have a hunter with you in the lead (which you do not as of this moment). You can't jump, fly, or other similar things with just Ryu right now. You can just walk- don't you feel special? There are three enemies in this area from Drogen to Camlon (the next town on the list in your book of travels). They are the Flea, Slime, and Bulla. Strength-wise, I'd rank them in this order (first being the strongest, next to strongest the second, and so on): Bulla, Flea, and Slime. You should be weary of the Bulla, especially if you encounter a pair. The experience you gain from the Bulla isn't as 'good' as from an encounter with a Flea, but it's still higher than encountering a pair of Slimes. So if you encounter a pair of Fleas, you should be 'pretty happy', since the outcome exp. you get will be good compared to other enemies in the area, and Fleas don't hurt you as much as Bullas. An important thing to note: it seems the EP you get from fighting a group of same monsters doesn't quite come out right. Such as a Slime, which gives 1EP and 4GP. If you defeat two of them in a same battle, you get 2EP and 7EP, where if you multiply 1EP and 4GP by two, it turns out to be 2EP and 8EP. It seems that the EP and GP you get won't come out as if you think like the equation before. The only point I'm trying to make is that the EP and GP might have decimal numbers, so the EP and GP I list is from a SINGLE ENEMY I encounter and defeat, and is the BEST EP AND GP you can receive from it. Now, if you travel a bit north from Drogen, you'll see a castle of some sort contained within a square wall, that's Camlon, your next town on the list to visit. I suggest leveling up to at least to Level 3 before entering Camlon, for there isn't anything to recover from other then a Dragon Fountain, located in Camlon's Castle, which contains relatively tough, and annoying monsters. When you're at level 3, or ready to enter Camlon, take a quick pit stop back to Drogen, purchase the 9X Herbs package, and purchase quite a few Antidotes- you WILL need them. Make sure to save as well. Well then, after you get that done, it's about time to head to Camlon and face your first dungeon.

    Camlon

    Hospitalities

  • Dragon Shrine
  • You arrive in Camlon only to find it has been attacked by the Dark Dragons!!! All the houses are smashed, except for the Dragon Shrine, where you can save your progress. You'll see that there are no Weapon or Item Shops to buy from. No matter, you have already bought the necessary items from Drogen (or at least I EXPECT YOU TO HAVE), and will be able to find FREE equipment in the castle by opening chests, provided you don't mind walking an extra 5 tiles out of your way to get them. You can talk to the people around town if you want, and there's no treasure to be found here, sadly. The main objective here is to defeat the monsters in the Castle. In order to do this, you must defeat the cause of the sprout of monsters in the Castle, an enemy which we'll leave nameless for now. You can get an update on what's going on in the castle by the King and his cohorts. Once you are ready, have plenty of Antdts on hand, not to mention about 9 Herbs, then enter the castle.

  • There are four common enemies here, and they are all enemies you haven't had experience with before. The most powerful in the dungeon award goes to the Beak, which probably has higher agility than you, meaning it can attack first, and a pretty powerful attack, about 8 HP damage per hit. About two swipes from your sword is enough to kill one Beak. You get 10 EP and 10 GP for your troubles. If you are able to defeat a Beak in one round, you’ll receive 12EP and 12GP. However, there's another creature called Creep, which gives the same amount of EP and GP that the Beak does- if you can kill it in one round- and isn't as tough. If it takes you two rounds to defeat Creep, you get 10EP and 10GP. The third creature is called Gloom. It attacks first usually, but doesn't deal attacks as damaging as the Beak. Although it gives a bit less EP than the Beak and Gloom, it gives a pretty fair amount of GP, 18 to be exact (15 if you beat it in two rounds). The only thing really to worry about is its T. Bolt, which can do a serious 12HP damage on Ryu. It casts it not so often at this point, but just watch out. The fourth enemy is what you have your Antdts for. You may or may not run into this creature often, called the P. Bug, but whatever the case, it's Poison Attack poisons you and after battle, it makes you lose 1 HP each step you take (added to the fact that having my characters flooding with purple color on their whole body is pretty annoying)! So what do you do when you get poisoned? Simple, just use your Antdt, that is, if you aren't near a Dragon Fountain, which we'll talk about soon. As for the P. Bug's strength, it is weak and usually uses Poison Attack, just poisoning your character and not dealing any damage. P. Bugs are usually found in groups, and each bug can be killed with one hit. It is now time to stop chit-chatting and start exploring!! From the entrance, head north. When you see the rocks, start heading west, then north again when you reach the wall. You should now see a fountain of some sort with a dragon head. This is called a Dragon Fountain. Feast your eyes on this great thing!! This restores both your HP and AP, and cures you of all status ailments, like poison!! All you have to do is walk up to it and act just like you're talking to a person. Then it'll auto heal you!! Around the Dragon Fountain is a good place to level up. Since the enemies here are a bit tougher, and give more EP than the enemies on the worldmap from Camlon to Drogen, levels are pretty easy to gain at this point. Level up to at least to Level 5, and continue on (You may want to go back to the Dragon Shrine and save). from the Dragon Fountain, go west, then north, east, and then south at the wall. You'll see two chests here. They both contain 70GP, which totals to 140GP, pretty handy. There's also another dragon fountain over here, if you feel you are too low of a level to continue on and want to level up, or you just need a breather of recovery. Continue on south from the chests, then head east, south, east, and up north to the stairs. You'll now be at Floor B1. There's nothing really complicated here. You'll see a purple door blocking two chests southwest of the stairs you came from. All you have to do to open the door is walk up to it, face it, and act like you are talking to a person. It will open up, letting you get the chests' contents. Unless you are EXTREMELY LAZY, open the chests for a Herb and a BronzSD. Wow, a nice shiny blade with more power than the one you have. Amazing!!! Now, I know you are standing in awe and all of that other stuff, but equip the darn thing!! If you already have, then good. You'll notice that it decreases your ACT by 2, but oh well, it's worth the attack power. Now continue on west through the hallway and ignore the big middle room you pass, there's nothing there. Past that, you'll see another purple door with two chests. What are you waiting for?! Open the door and get the chests!!! You'll find a Gauntlet in the left chest, while a Herb in the right. Equip the Guantlet, though it decreases your ACT, and head towards the stairs you can see to the west of you. You'll notice, after climbing the stairs, you're back on the 1st Floor!! Now, head south until you reach another set of stairs. Beyond the stairs lies nothing but rocks, so it's better if you went up the stairs, unless you love to look at rocks. You are back on Floor B1. That and you'll notice the room looks about the same as the last room on Floor B1!!! Don't let that bother you, head south and access the chests behind the purple door. The right chest contains a Herb, while the left contains a SuedeCP. Make sure to equip the SuedeCP and continue down the hallway, past the empty and 'mysterious' middle room, and access the next two chests behind the purple door. The right chest contains a Visor while the left, a Herb. Equip the Visor and head towards the stairs to the east. After climbing those stairs, you'll notice you're back on the 1st Floor! Now, head south, then go left, and finally north to a chest which contains an Antdt and a trap that heals both your HP and AP!! Alright! Now head far west, past the stairs to the north to find another chest with an Antdt and a trap that lowers your AP (like it really matters). If you really care about your AP, then open this chest BEFORE you open the chest with the trap that heals your HP and AP, in order to counter the effect. Now, head back east and go north when you see the stairs. You're finally on the second floor, where the throne room and the boss, Frog, are. It'll get angry, grow into a big giant 'Frog', and start attacking you!! Boss bashing time!!!

    Frog

Frog has approximently 180 HP(I round to the not-so-nearest hundreds, tens, etc). For the first boss he is, not surprisingly, easy. The strategy here is to keep hitting him with physical attacks, doing about 15-17 HP per round for damage, if you're on Level 5. Heal if your HP is near 10. Frog's attacks don't hit very hard. The most damaging attack that he can do seems to be his 'jump' attack (it has no name, but I call it that because he jumps at you to attack), which can do about 6 HP damage to Ryu. His other attacks do about 4-5 HP damage to a Level 5 Ryu. Frog usually attacks first, so be sure to plan ahead and know when and when not to attack. If your HP is at 11, and you have a choice between healing and attacking, you darn well better heal! Once Frog's life bar is depleted, it'll say 'Frog seems alright'. This is the start of his 'second wind', most bosses have it, and it marks the near-end battle signal. One hit from your sword after that message should finish Frog off. If not, then it'll be the next hit, if it doesn't miss, of course. You gain 500EP/350GP from this battle. It is very likely you'll gain two levels.

    !!!!Victory!!!!

Ah, you have won your first boss battle!! Pat yourself on the back!! You'll see a message saying fresh air is entering the castle! That means no more monster encounters in the castle!!! Before you go off running like a maniac screaming 'I beat the monster!!!' to the king, go grab those two chests you can see in that back room to the northeast of you. The left chest contains a Herb while the right, 150GP. Now it is time to walk out of the castle, quietly, with pride and honor contained within you. When you exit the castle, the earth shakes and the King talks about some Nanai Dungeon and this Earthquake Mechanism. You know what that means!! Go explore the Nanai Dungeon!! Where is it, though? The Nanai dungeon is accessible at that town you can see with the brown dock and all that other nice stuff- located VERY NEAR east of Camlon. If you talk to one of the King's cohorts, he mentions entering Nanai at night. Follow his advice, for the security will be lessened. AFTER YOU HAVE SAVED (never forget!!), exit Camlon with a few words of thanks from the townspeople.

    Overworld Map

Well, you're now back on the world map!! Are you ready to head for Nanai? I hope you didn't say yes, since you should go back to Drogen to buy some supplies. So, go on, head south to the 'all too familiar' town of Drogen. Don't go to the Weapon Shop and start spending your money on an Armpad or WoodenSH!! Instead, go to the Item Shop and purchase around 3 or 4 HerbX9 packages, along with with about eight or so Antdts. You should always keep Antdts handy- note that. Purchasing this shouldn't really be a problem, since you discovered money in Camlon Castle and fought some monsters in the castle to level up. AFTER you save, exit town, and head north past Camlon following the river north till you see a bridge up ahead on the river. Cross that bridge to the east and continue east until you cross the second bridge. At this point, follow south along the river where you should eventually come across the town of Nanai. Nanai is a town with a brown dock and a high building in the middle of its walls. You must wait till night in which to enter Nanai, for guards will be blocking the entrance at day. Also note that the enemies in this area are a combination of enemies from the path to Drogen to Camlon and Camlon Castle's monsters. You will mostly encounter Fleas, Bullas, and Slimes- all which should be relatively easy to beat. You might even encounter a Creep if you stay around long enough far north from the river- though it leads nowhere. Another thing to notice is that if you go northeast instead of south after the second bridge, you will find this dragon imprint on the ground. Don't worry about it for now, for you cannot access this area at this point in the game. Once you're done exploring and fighting creatures in the landscape, go towards Nanai's entrance- if it's day- and just stand there till day turns to night. If it's already night or has turned night, well then, enter Nanai and prepare to do some clever maneuvering through town!

  • You have finally reached Nanai! Now, you have to sneak into the dungeon. Some guards are sleeping, while others are not. You have to be careful to not get too close to the ones that are NOT sleeping, or you'll be thrown out of town (too bad you can't fight them for some EP, eh?). Be aware that some buildings, like the Item Shop, are inaccessible. Some houses have treasures, are empty, or even sell weapons. Take note of that, and from the entrance, head east and then north into the Dragon Shrine you can see. It is close to a guard, but he can't see you. AFTER you have SAVED, head west from the Dragon Shrine into the Inn. There's no one here, but go near the back of the building and check the drawer for a S. Ptn (Raises STR +1)! Exit the Inn. From the Inn door, head a short west, then north until you reach the border of the flower bed with the two trees in the middle. Head east for about 4-5 spaces, then north 4 spaces. After that, continue on east till you reach an accessible house located to the north of you. Go in and pick up two treasures- both containing 150GP. Exit the buliding, then continue on east till you hit the water. Go south now, until you reach the back of a small, blue roof house, then head two spaces west. From here, go five spaces south, then head east until you hit the last flowerbed (it's the second one you encounter via this route). You'll notice a Weapon Shop to the north a bit. Go directly north, and if you want, enter the Weapon Shop. The only useful thing here is the LongSD, which costs a whopping 2250GP. It is possible to buy the LongSD by obtaining enough GP from the battles in Nanai Dungeon, and from a chest you can find with 650GP later. It's a time consuming process in gaining GP from battles, but can help you out vs. the boss a bit- though it isn't necessary. Whatever you choose, continue heading north from the Weapon Shop until you see a path open to the west of you, to cross through the water. Cross it and head west till you touch the middle flowerbed's border. Go north from the flowerbed and get right next to the northern house's door. Now, take 3 steps east, 1 step south, 2 steps east, 1 step north, 3 steps east, and enter the house to the north of you to obtain some treasures. The chests both contain Herbs. After that, get yourself kicked out of town. Reenter Nanai, and follow the same steps to get to the back of the house of the blue roof (you don't have to reenter buildings, except for the Dragon Shrine to save!!). From the back of the house with the blue roof, head west 2 spaces and south 4 spaces. Now head 12 spaces east. Go straight north till you can't anymore. From that point, move 1 space to the west. Finally, head directly north, and then enter the doorway of the big dragon-emblemed building. You've reached your destination, and the end of the spacing mania- for now.

  • I'd recommend being at around Level 8 right now. I was at level 10 at this point, and the monsters still hit me hard. Even if you aren't at level 8, just open the door to the direct north of you, from the entrance, using the talk button. Then head north down the stairs. This is the point where you'll meet monsters. Most of the common enemies found on this floor are a group of three Beaks. They don't hit really hard, around 3 or so HP. If you're at at least Level 7/8, that shouldn't hurt you too much. Just continue on down the stairs you see, and then the next after that. You'll finally come to a new-looking area. You should be grateful Ryu is part of the Dragon Clan, or that skin would burn right off of him right now. The enemies in this area are usually a group of Beaks- two or three. Defeating them nets you usually around 20EP or 20GP for two, and 31EP and 31GP for three. That's not too shabby, compared to the EP and GP you gain outside of Nanai. You can also find a Gloom alone here, which you should be faster than, and be able to take out relatively quickly. You'll also note you can usually kill a Gloom in about one hit, netting you a good 7EP and 18GP. The group that probably gives the most GP than any other, is the group of three P. Bugs. They usually will poison you, but killing them nets you around 45GP. Just use your Antdt to rid yourself of the poison. Well, just standing there thinking what to do, eh? What are you waiting for?! Get moving down that slope you can see down south of you! After you go down the slope, start heading east, over that bridge you can see, to the east. Once you're over the bridge, go over to that chest you can see to the south of you for an Antdt. This item is a small prayer if you forgot to buy Antdts at Drogen (finally remembered?). After jumping up and down in whatever room you are in for getting that item, head up, back north, and cross the rope bridge back to the west side. Keep heading west till you can see a slope directly south of you. From there, go down, south through the slope, and cross the bridge going south. After you cross the bridge, you'll see two paths open to you, one going east, the other west. Unless you want to miss 650GP in one shot, head west until you are in line with a slope north of you. At that point, go north, up the slope- crossing a bridge- up another slope- then up another bridge- to finally find a chest with 650GP! If you previously had 1600GP or more, you could consider going back to the town of Nanai and purchasing that LongSD. Whatever you decide, the place where you should go- whether purchasing that LongSD or not- is back to the intersection of the east and west routes. You can either go back to town or head east from here. If you're not purchasing that LongSD, or have purchased it already, head east and go past the first slope you see. You'll eventually see a second slope- which you should go up on and grab the chest containing a B. Stn. This item is very deadly to any enemy at this point in the game. I don't recommend using it right now, however. There's a later battle in the game where it'll be used for desperate measures. Go back to the slope you passed earlier, and go north, up it, and up another slope. Cross the bridge you can see to the east. After you have crossed the bridge, head north, up another bridge. Keep heading north at this point till you reach a staircase heading down. If you're not at Level 9, or Level 8- especially- consider going up at least one level from the current you are at. It shouldn't be too long of a wait (I was at level 10, without really waiting all that much, scanning through the area three or four times). Once you are at a good level (8 or 9, 9 recommended), with some suitable amount of supplies, head down the stairs. Now, go down the stairs you see to the west of you, and go down the next stairs you see to the east of you, in the next room. Well, well, well, you are at a seemingly familiar area, though the enemies have... gotten a bit smarter. Some enemies you know almost so well now are teamed up together, against you! The 'deadliest team award' would have to go to the pair of two Glooms, teamed up with either a Beak, or Creep. The reason for the Glooms being 'deadly' is their consistency to use their
    T. Bolt spell. This dandy spell takes off 12HP off your character, and Glooms CAN and WILL SOMETIMES cast it two times in a row if you don't kill them fast enough. So when you meet a pair of Glooms teamed up with another enemy, kill off the Glooms first, for they can hit pretty hard. There can also be a 'Creep with two Beaks team', which give a pretty fair amount of EP and GP. Although I do recommend you level up on the floor before similar to this, you can level up here, though you may lose a few more HP from the Gloom's T. Bolt spell. Well, whenever you are ready, go down the slope you can see to the south of you, and cross the bridge you can see to the east of you. Go up the first slope you see, then head east to a chest containing an Armpad. Though it doesn't sound like much, this little piece of equipment has a higher defense than the SuedeCP, is lighter, and CAN raise your MAG stat +1!! A nice one to equip. Go back down the slope, and head west. When you are in line with a slope south of you, head south, down it, and open the chest you see for 70GP. From the chest, head west until you are in line with a bridge south of you. After crossing the bridge, head up the slope you can see to the southeast of you. You are faced again with a choice of either going west or east. If you haven't figured it out, west is your lucky direction, so head towards the western route. Go down the slope you see, and open the chest to the west of the slope for a F. Stn. This item, just like the B. Stn, is very deadly at this early in the game. However, like I said earlier, don't use it right now. Now go back up the slope and head into the eastern route. Go up the first slope you see. From the slope, open the chest you can see west of you for a Cure. This is a pretty expensive recovery item to buy, and recovers a plentiful amount of HP, so I wouldn't use it right now- for a Herb is enough to heal you for a good amount of HP. Once you're done looking at the caption of the item 'Cure', and are screaming for the end of this dungeon, go back down the slope and continue on east. Head north across the bridge you can see. Once across the bridge, head down the slope you can see to the west. Then go up the next slope you can see to the west of the slope you just went down. You'll now see a big staircase. You should be at Level 9 or Level 10, before you go down the forbidden steps. If you are already at those levels, well then, heal yourself to full, check your Herb supply, and if they are all good and to go, head down the steps. The sight of magma is now gone, and you are in this sort of room. There are no monsters here, except for one man. Just head down the steps you can see south of you, and go around the platform you are on. You will see a passage to the north of you. Head down the passage, where you will see three things. Northwest from the passage, you'll see a pillar, this is called a Guardian Pillar, however, it is obsolete. To the northeast is a blue orb- that is called a Teleporter. To the north you will see your final enemy of the dungeon, called the Knight. When you are ready, walk up to him, and he'll talk about ruling the world. You know what that means, a duel to the death, ending in a good, or bad, conclusion.

    Knight

Knight has about 400HP. He has three moves up his sleeve. One is his normal attack, which can do about 8-12HP damage, depending on your level. If he slams, it does about 14-18HP damage. The deadliest move he can do is his T. Bolt spell, which does about 20HP damage to Ryu! This being the case, I recommend healing when your HP is down to about 25HP, for safety measures. Use Herbs to heal, not the 'Cure' item you got from this dungeon!! Also, don't use your B. Stn and F. Stn!! If you do, that is a shame. When the Knight's HP is down a bit, he'll start using recover. This just pretty much counters the attack round you do to the Knight- nothing serious. Just keep hitting him round after round, and healing when necessary. Your attacks should do about 15-17HP with the BronzSD equipped. Once he reaches his second wind, he'll say 'Arggh!'. The Knight's second wind is a bit longer than the Frog's. It takes about 5-6 hits more to kill him off. Once he is defeated, congratulate yourself on a job well done. You gain 700EP/500GP, which CAN level you up, but if you are at Level 10, chances are, it won't happen.

    !!!Victory!!!

After the battle, the Knight will apparently 'explode', and the the machine he was standing in front of is now accessible to walk up to. If you are sure you are done with all your business in Nanai, walk up to the strange machine, and take the key from the machine when it asks if you want to. The ground will shake, and you'll see the Teleporter to the east blinking. Before you go off running and screaming towards the Teleporter, wait a bit, and you'll hear a voice talking about how he/she is returning. Who is returning? Sounds creepy to me. With this mysterious thought in mind, head towards the Teleporter, and enter it. You'll appear outside of Nanai, where it will explode. Note: If you wait for the voice to speak three times, you will be sent to your grave.

    The Path Ahead

After the explosion, a cohort of the King of Camlon will arrive to congratulate you on a job well done. You'll be instantly sent back to Camlon, where the King will talk about how true of a hero you are. Then one of the cohorts of the King will tell you to travel to Winlan, where you will be able to find a cave leading to a new kingdom. Well, save at the Dragon Statue, and prepare to leave the area of Camlon and Drogen. It is now time to journey to Winlan, Kingdom of the Winlans.
