After Gobi joins your party for awhile, and the story moves along, he'll be obtain an item called the 'sphere', which allows him to transform into a big fish. Unlike his regular form, this form is bigger, and can actually 'swim'. You will have no enemy encounters while Gobi is in this state, and can travel over chasms in the ocean floor. This is the best means of transportation through the underwater world, since the spell 'Warp', does NOT work while underwater. To use this ability, simply place Gobi in the front of the party while in the underwater world map, and press the 'talk button'. Gobi will instantly transform into a fish, allowing you to travel freely underwater. To change back, simply press the 'talk button' again. This ability may prove invaluable at certain times.
In Tunlan or Prima, you can find an empty shop in one of the shop buildings. If you place Gobi in the lead, you can set up a shop by going behind the counter, in between the two torches, and pressing the 'talk button'. Gobi will automatically set up shop and a customer will come along, either offering to buy one of your items in your inventory (excluding vital), or sell what they have on them. Usually, you'll be offered a common item which can be bought, but that price will be a bit lower than usual. Once in awhile, an item will be offered to you which can't be found at that point in the game, or anywhere else at all! If you wait patiently enough, you'll get your payoff. It is recommended NEVER to sell any of YOUR goods, since the price they'll give you is lower than what you can get from selling it at a shop. New items will be offered after certain events in the game. As well as having the choice of recieving new goods at these times, some past items will no longer be offered- so beware before you pass through that event in the game. Below is a list of the items that can be offered to you, how much they cost, and at what time period they are offered at certain points in the game. They also have their own rating of recommendation. Ratings highlighted in gold mean the corresponding item cannot be found elsewhere. Be aware that the noteworthy items in the list are harder to come by.

If one thing is certain, it is this: Gobi's spells are usually stronger than his physical attack. They also hit ALL the enemies in battle. He also learns his most powerful ones after leveling up once or twice. Here's the catch: They only work in underwater battles. Most of the game's battles take place ABOVE water, making Gobi's spells' usefulness shortlived. Always remember, however, that when you're underwater and are trying to find a spell that's actually useful, bring out Gobi and let him do his casting. Overall, Gobi without spells makes him a fish out of water. Listed below is all the information you'll need about Gobi's four spells.
